Steps Thus Far…

Every step of Ian Rhett’s musical journey has been a leap of faith into the unknown. And with each step, a new discovery of musical possibility emerges that drives him forward on a path of lyrical purpose strewn with firsts – life-changing experiences as a growing performing singer-songwriter. From breaking his lifelong creative block with hist first-ever public performance at the tender age of 38, to six months later having a highly viral music video prompt an invitation by John Kerry’s Presidential campaign to perform in Florida in the last days of the 2004 election to opening for Tower of Power at the Fillmore Auditorium all the way to the latest milestone of Ian’s epic, the recording of his first full-length album.

His music crosses genres prompting comparisons to the sounds of Sam Cooke, Phil Oakes, The Beatles, and Van Morrison. Produced by Grammy and Dove-winning producer/engineer James Waddell (Aretha Franklin, India Irie), with an all star band lead by bassist and composer/legend Tommy Sims (Springsteen, Amy Grant, Clapton), Ian’s first full length record is the fulfillment of a life-long dream to write songs that made a difference in the world.

The songs on the new album, titled “Take That Step,” are intended to ask important questions and offer hope and inspiration to a weary world. A portion of the proceeds from several songs on the album will be donated to organizations supporting homeless children, a sustainable and thriving natural environment, victims of depression, wounded veterans, civil rights, and generating kindness and compassion. The record will be available out of the trunk of Ian’s car and online in the Summer of 2014. For a limited time, people can download the entire record in exchange for joining his email list.

Out of time

I learned to play music mostly as a way of expressing emotions in a house that was very unsafe for me to express anything, really. Piano was emotional processor. I had Read the full post…

Screaming into my heart

I stopped doing any promotion of my music a few years ago. I did some math and realized that music was not going to provide me with the lifestyle I’d grown accustomed to: eating, having electricity, a car to get me places… I came to a crossroads of sorts – I felt I needed to Read the full post…

A quick update on Ian Rhett + Music… I’m writing, and trying to make space for music every day. I’m also product and project managing several nonprofit technology projects as a way to generate some bill-paying stuff and difference-making.
